Company Interviews: Zara Jestadt as Titania
We asked Zara Jestadt, who plays Titania in our production of A Midsummer Night's Dream, a few questions about herself, her character, and her biggest theatrical flop...
Have you been in a production of A Midsummer Night's Dream before?
Unfortunately not! But I did perform a section of a speech Titania speaks for Theatre Ontario when I was in theatre school. It was kind of a mash-up of speeches. And it was a lot of fun - I knew I wanted to actually play her one day. Come see the show and guess what section it was!
What might people be interested to know about your take on your character?
Titania is so multi-faceted - she is so powerful, yet soft, motherly and tender; sensual, yet firm; playful, free and open, yet fiercely stands up for what she believes in and those she loves. It has been fun discovering her nuances and layers.
If your character were at the Monarch Tavern, what drink would they order?
A Green Fairy cocktail. Anything with Absinthe in it. Because it is magic, and so is The Fairy Queen.
Who is your favourite pop-culture fairy?
Cinderella was my favourite Disney movie as a kid and the fairy god mother in it is pretty neat. She seems so nice and motherly. Although I don't know why such an early curfew...
If you could have one magical power what would it be?
The power to make people laugh at my jokes.
What is your post-show drink of choice?
WINE!
Have you ever been in a play that was a flop?
I don't think I can give any specific details out without giving it away. But I knew it was a pretty big disaster from the beginning. I don't think I even told my mom about it. I still don't think she knows, unless she's reading this right now. Hi mom!
What are you most excited for people to see in this production?
How fantastic and FUNNY everyone is. I am laughing all the time in rehearsals.
