We asked Co-Artistic Director Julia Nish-Lapidus, who plays the Duchess and the Clown in our production of Othello, a few questions about herself, the play, and her history with the company...
PictureJulia Nish-Lapidus as the Clown. Photo by Jonas Widdifield.
What’s the best line in the play?
"He says he will return incontinent." ...no?

Shakespeare BASH'd is known for their love of karaoke. What's your go-to karaoke song?
Definitely Fergalicious, with back-up by James Wallis.

If your character were at the Monarch Tavern, what drink would they order?
The Duchess: the most expensive wine. The Clown: one of everything!

What have you done with Shakespeare BASH'd before?
I've been involved in every show Shakespeare BASH'd has done, either as an actor, director, or producer (which makes me very lucky). This one is especially exciting because I get to act in it and play both the highest status and lowest status character. And while everyone else is going through some of the most intense drama, I'm the clown and have very little stake in any of it, so I'm having fun!

Coffee or Tea?
So much tea. Strong black tea, steeped for a very long time.

What are you most excited for people to see in this production?
The incredible cast and amazing storytelling. It's a hard play and this team is doing incredible work bringing it to life. Their work should be seen and I can't wait for that to happen!
