Company Interviews: Hallie Seline as Rosalind
We asked Hallie Seline, who plays Rosalind in our production of As You Like It, a few questions about herself, her character, and her drink preferences...
What might people be interested to know about your take on your character?
Oh Rosalind. So many people spoke to me about their thoughts on her and mostly how self-assured she is. Which she is. I love that she feels completely empowered to say "Wait a minute... I am strong. I am smart. I am worth it. I can do better than this," and also to someone she loves "This is who I am, completely. Either you take me fully as I am, or you are not for me." She is brave and bold and uncompromising. I love that.
However, while approaching her for the first time through the text, I was so surprised to see what a Lover she is! She is ALL OVER THE MAP. She feels everything so fully and in a BIG way. Get ready for a rollercoaster ride of emotion.
What is your favourite forest?
I'm a country girl at heart so I love all things nature - forests, mountains, lakes, fields etc. One of my favourite forests is the one at the back of my grandparents' house in the Eastern Townships. The ground is covered with moss, ferns and wild flowers and there is a brook that runs through it. It was one of the best places to go to reconnect.
What’s the best line in the play?
There are so many, but one of my favourites is:
"Men have died from time to time and worms have eaten them, but not for love."
Who is your favourite pro wrestler?
It's a tie between Charlotte Flair and Chris Jericho.
If your character were at Junction City Music Hall, what drink would they order?
I want to say, depending on how she was feeling, she would order either a glass of sparkling, a pint of beer, or a bourbon on the rocks. I think it would depend on who she ran into in the forest that day, or whether Orlando was on time or not.
What is your post-show drink of choice?
Bourbon on the rocks.
What have you done with Shakespeare BASH'd before?
I count myself very lucky to have worked with BASH'd a number of times before. I played Juliet in Romeo and Juliet, the Princess of France in Love's Labour's Lost, one of the bad-ass witches in Macbeth, and most recently, Olivia in Twelfth Night. From the moment I first saw one of their shows, I knew I HAD to work with them (and then convinced them to work with me)! They are some of the most wonderful, smart, talented and hard-working artists I know. I love how they always approach their work with joy, love, open-hearts and all of their big smart brains! I have learned so much from them every time I get to work with them.
What are you most excited for people to see in this production?
The joy, the silliness, the heart-bursting original music, and all of the UNREAL TALENT. It's going to be a fun one!
