Company Interviews: Catherine Rainville as Innogen
We asked Catherine Rainville, who plays Innogen in our production of Cymbeline, a few questions about herself, the production, and camping...
What might people be interested to know about your take on your character?
Innogen is an incredible character to discover. She is passionate, jealous, loyal, and incredibly direct. New layers are being revealed each time we delve into this world. It’s a lot of fun. I think the biggest discovery is her darker, jealous side. I like it.
What's your favourite fairy tale?
Perhaps not a fairy tale but it is about dragons and a princess. The Paper Bag Princess is a bad ass and I love her. She is in a very bad situation and she handles it like a boss. Especially when she tells the prince he’s a bum. It’s great.
What is your history with Shakespeare BASH'd?
I have done many shows with this company. I think this is the largest role I’ve tackled with them, which is exciting! It’s incredibly wonderful to be working with Julia as a director again on a story I know very little about. I have never seen Cymbeline, nor had I read it, so it’s been a real fun ride so far!
If you were running away into the woods, who would you take with you?
Obviously my cat, Larry. Hunting and cuddles. Done.
If your character were at Junction City Music Hall, what drink would they order?
At the beginning of the play – Cava. At the end of the play – Cava and some whisky
What is your post-show drink of choice?
BEER
Tell us about your most ridiculous camping experience.
I was sleep walking and peed in the corner of my tent. My friend woke up and asked me what the hell I was doing and I said “I can’t go outside, the sun will get me.” I have no memory of this.
What are you most excited for people to see in this production?
I’m so excited by the world we are creating. We are leaning into this story as a fairy tale and it just works so well. It makes for exciting, whimsical storytelling that is full of surprises. It’s incredibly unique and I think Julia is creating an open and inviting room for us all to explore this strange and wild story together.
