Company Interviews: Déjah Dixon-Green as Arviragus
We asked Déjah Dixon-Green, who plays Arviragus and a Gentlewoman in our production of Cymbeline, a few questions about herself, fairy tales, and the production...
What's your favourite fairy tale?
My favourite fairy tale is definitely The Wizard of Oz. l have been obsessed with the story for as long as I can remember. I think it’s because I've always been a very curious person and the whole story is based on people searching for something more.
What is your history with Shakespeare BASH'd?
I fell in love with the work that Shakespeare BASH’d does following my general audition for the company right out of theatre school. I love Shakespeare and I feel very lucky to be in the Cymbeline room because everything is about telling this crazy and sometimes nonsensical story clearly. It’s very exciting and refreshing to be in a room of talented artists who are truly all in it for the art.
If you were running away into the woods, who would you take with you and why?
I would buy a Pomsky off of Kijiji, probably name it Pom Pom and take her with me. I have thought about this before. If I was to run away I would want to bring a puppy with me because they are compassionate friends who are arguably self efficient and I imagine pretty low maintenance in the woods. I’ve also just always wanted a puppy.
If your character were at Junction City Music Hall, what drink would they order?
Arviragus would order a Caesar garnished with a pickled Asparagus to honour her nick name “Asparagus.” Gentlewoman, who I have secretly named Tiffany, would order your classic glass of Rosé with one ice cube.
What is your post-show drink of choice?
My post show drink of choice is usually a Gin and Soda with extra lime and if I’m feeling extra fancy then I’ll order a Gin Martini, extra dirty. So basically I just love gin and I am very extra.
Tell us about your most ridiculous camping experience.
One time when I was camping I went on a walk to the bathroom late at night and my flashlight died. It was almost pitch black and I spun around so much that I couldn’t remember which way I was walking towards. I just started screaming my friend’s name until I realized I had actually brought my phone with me. Technology is indeed a gift.
What are you most excited for people to see in this production?
This play is amazing and I honestly don’t understand why it’s not done more often. I can’t help but feel ALL the feels in rehearsals, It's an emotional roller coaster and I can’t wait for the audience to hop on the ride too.
