Company Interviews: James Wallis - Director
We asked James Wallis, who is directing our production of Twelfth Night, a few questions about himself, the play, Shakespeare, and his early romances...
What is your favourite scene or line in Twelfth Night?
"Thus the whirligig of time brings in her revenges" Have you ever written or received a love letter? Yes I have. It was ten pages long and a little hyperbolic, but very sweet. Who do people say is your celebrity twin? Jack Black in The Holiday specifically (that's what my wife Julia says...). This production is set in the 1920s in Paris. What is your favourite thing about that era? I love the carefree attitude, passionate art, and the desire to truly experience life. What might an audience member be interested to know about your take on this play? I think the audience would love to know that I think this play is Shakespeare's greatest achievement. What are you most looking forward to about this production? The music, the amazing cast of people presenting it, the joy of this play, and the audience experience it. What are you going to drink to celebrate opening night at the Monarch Tavern? A crisp IPA and a shot of bourbon. Never break tradition! |
