Company Interviews: Daniel Briere as Sir Toby Belch
We asked Daniel Briere, who plays Sir Toby Belch in our production of Twelfth Night, a few questions about himself, the play, and his childhood pranks...
What part of the city do you live in, and what is the best thing about your neighbourhood?
I live in Riverdale. It's the first neighbourhood I've lived in on the east side. And really it's not far away! This side of the Don Valley is great! Cheap rent, great neighbours, close to lots of things. Not going anywhere any time soon!
What’s the best prank you’ve ever pulled (or had pulled on you)?
When I was eight, I gave my friend Devin a sandwich that had mustard on it. He didn't like mustard. Still ate the sandwich. Hehe.
Who was your first kiss?
My grade 5/6 bus partner Annie. On the bus. Somewhere mid-city before first period.
This production is set in the 1920s in Paris. What is your favourite thing about that era?
Tommy guns. Thin moustaches. Handkerchiefs. Oh, and artistic expression, futurism, dada, all that other junk.
What might an audience member be interested to know about your take on your character?
Briefs. Always briefs.
What are you most looking forward to about this production?
Getting away with drinking real booze on stage.
What are you going to drink to celebrate opening night at the Monarch Tavern?
Not real booze, obviously...
