Company Interviews: Olivia Croft as Escalus

We asked Olivia Croft who plays Escalus in our production of Measure for Measure, a few questions about herself, the play, and drink preferences...
PictureOlivia Croft as Escalus. Photo by Kyle Purcell.
What might people be interested to know about your take on your character?
Well, I don’t want to give away too much of my masterful artistry but, Escalus has traditionally been represented by an older white male, and I am actually the opposite, surprise! But, I have really been having fun with finding strength and leadership in an observer archetype. Escalus controls the tide with her lens of morality as her primary tool, which never seems to fail her.

What’s the best line in the play?
“Well heaven forgive him, and forgive us all. Some rise by sin, and some by virtue fall.”

Measure for Measure is being performed at a music venue. If you were in a band, what kind of band would it be?
Florence and the Machine female choral cover band.

What's your take on prunes? Yes? No? How would you prepare them?
Good for the bowels, dried.

Which character from Measure for Measure would you want to be friends with in real life?
ELBOW.

What is your post-show drink of choice?
Shot of tequila and a lime, please.

Favourite pop culture nun:
Madonna.
