The land on which we work is built on the traditional territory of Tkaronto, where there are Trees Standing in the Water. A gathering place for the Anishinaabe, Haudenosaunee, Wendat, the Mississauga’s of the Credit First Nation, and any other nations that travelled through this territory, both recorded and unrecorded.
Tkaronto is part of Treaty 13 and the Dish with One Spoon Wampum Treaty. The dish being Southern Ontario, which we all share and eat out of. This means taking care of the land and all creatures that dwell within it. Please note that this Treaty has not been upheld.
The Seven Grandfather Teachings
The Seven Grandfather Teachings in the Ojibwe culture have been traditionally passed down from generation to generation orally through stories & ceremonies. These guiding principles have been adopted by many Indigenous communities, in one form or another, as a moral stepping stone & cultural foundation.
They are: Wisdom, Love, Respect, Bravery, Honesty, Humility, and Truth.
In order to make this land acknowledgement actionable, a donation is made to an Indigenous organization for every public performance.
