A personal note from Julia and James
Hello!
We wanted to share some behind the scenes detail on how our company works, with the hope that we can get your help and continued support to make this season a success.
We started Shakespeare BASH'd over ten years ago. This enabled us to work with some of our favourite people, taking ownership of our artistry in a very challenging field, where we, as young artists, were having trouble finding a voice and outlet.
Since then BASH'd has grown beyond our wildest dreams: working with some of the finest theatre artists in this country, and developing an incredible following of the most passionate and magnanimous audience members we could imagine. We feel so incredibly lucky!
In the time since we first started, producing theatre has gotten more and more expensive, and BASH'd continues to operate on a shoestring budget.
Shakespeare BASH'd does not receive funding from any level of government or large funding body. We rely completely on contributions from patrons and fundraising events to cover the costs associated with our season, which includes rehearsal and performance spaces, costumes, props, marketing, website maintenance, etc. The entirety of the box office revenue is used to pay the artists who work on the shows, so we strive to fundraise the entire production costs ahead of time.
This company, and the people who help bring it to life, are our number one priority, and that includes you: the audience.
At this time, we're currently in the midst of a fundraiser for our season, and are working to crowdfund $4000 to help make this season possible.
This is where you come in. The $4000 we are trying to raise is just a fraction of what's needed to make this season possible, but it goes a long way to allow us to bring you the exciting Shakespearean experience we pride ourselves on. For a company like ours, every dollar is stretched to have a huge impact, and the purpose of crowdfunding is that when we all come together, it adds up to making a huge difference in the season.
We are writing to ask you to consider making a donation of any size to our season fundraiser, helping us make sure we can bring the best possible productions to you and continue to support the phenomenal artists with whom we are fortunate to work.
We hope you'll consider extending your involvement to help us reach (or even surpass) our goal this season. There are fun perks, including personalized couplets written just for you, tickets to our shows (including the already sold-out staged reading of Arden of Faversham), and BASH'd merch.
But on top of every perk, you get our undying appreciation and thanks, and the knowledge that you have had a significant impact on the work and lives of so many artists.
Please reach out with any questions. And thank you for your continued support.
We can no other answer make, but thanks, and thanks, and ever thanks.
